Gum Recession Treatment

Gum recession occurs when the gum tissue pulls away from your teeth, exposing the tooth roots. This can cause pain, tooth sensitivity and increase the risk of tooth loss. It can also affect the appearance of your smile.

Dr. Molina performs gum grafting to increase the gum tissue around your teeth, which eliminates sensitivity, helps prevent tooth loss and returns your smile to normal.

Dr. Molina is a periodontist, a specialist with three additional years of training in gum treatment. He keeps up-to-date with the latest in gum recession treatment, including minimally invasive options for maximum patient comfort.

He is conservative with his treatment plans and takes the least invasive approach whenever possible.

Smile With

ConFidence Again

When your gums recede, your teeth can start to look longer and disproportionate, creating an aging effect.

Through gum grafting, Dr. Molina brings your gum line back to where it should be, making your whole smile look more balanced, natural and youthful.

State-of-the-Art

Recession Treatment

The doctors use the latest techniques to achieve optimal gum coverage, long-lasting results and an aesthetic match of the patient’s gum tissue. Whenever he can, he uses minimally invasive procedures.

Your first step is a thorough examination and consultation with the doctor, who will recommend the best option for your situation.

For Mild to Moderate

Gum Recession

For mild to moderate gum recession, the doctors can choose several minimally procedures, including:

  • Tunneling

Dr. Molina uses tunneling for patients with thin gums or more extensive recession. Also minimally invasive, this technique involves Dr. Molina numbing the area and making a small incision just above or below the receded gum. Through this tunnel, he inserts and positions a small piece of gum tissue to cover the exposed roots.

  • Vista

VISTA is a specialized tunneling technique especially effective for treating multiple adjacent teeth, particularly in the front of the mouth.

Precision Treatment

Using A Surgical Microscope

For certain gum recession treatments, Dr. Molina uses a surgical microscope to improve precision and protect delicate tissue, helping support comfortable healing and natural-looking results.

Gum Recession FAQs

Gum recession can be caused by several factors, including:

Brushing too hard or using a hard-bristled toothbrush

Gum disease (periodontal disease)

Genetics—some people are more prone to recession

Teeth grinding or clenching

Tobacco use

Misaligned teeth or improper bite

Hormonal changes, especially in women

Unfortunately, gums do not grow back naturally once they have receded. While you can stop gum recession from worsening with good oral care and professional treatment, lost gum tissue won’t regenerate on its own. However, Dr. Molina’s dental procedures—such as gum grafts—can help restore your gumline and protect your teeth.

Many don’t know they have it until gum recession is a problem. However, there may be signs that you have gum recession:

Your tooth/teeth may look longer

The roots of your teeth may become visible

You may find that eating hot or cold foods, or sweet or acidic drinks, makes your teeth or gums hurt

You may see small notches above your gumline where your teeth meet your gums

You may have red, swollen, or bleeding gums

Visit Dr. Molina to find out if you have gum recession.

Dr. Molina chooses gum grafting options that reduce post-treatment soreness. He also uses Calaject—a computer-controlled injection system that delivers local anesthetic slowly and gently, making the numbing process extremely comfortable. Most patients feel little or no discomfort during gum grafting.
